Hello Lauren here, Thank you so much for joining me today for my 101st episode of my podcast “Being well with Lauren”. I have a cup of tea here in my favorite cup and I am looking forward to sitting down with you and having a nice chat. So, without further ado let’s have a lovely chat about how to be happy every single day…It has been a few days since we have spoken…too long…too long I feel…I start with a quote today from one of my favourites Leo Tolstoy ‘If you want to be happy be” Isn’t that lovely? This quote really says so much doesn’t ? It is so simple yet there is so much meaning behind these words.

Today I talk about current happiness theories. What I found and what I regularly continue to find when combing the internet is that some blogs have pictures of beautiful young people and these people are smiling by a luxurious pool with a tropical backdrop….with the appearance of wealth suggesting that these elements automatically bring happiness. Yes perhaps these elements of youth, wealth, and beauty may help happiness…to be young beautiful with a healthy smoothie in the hand by a scenic outlook may indeed help our state of mind BUT sustainable is so much more than beauty, bliss, and the perfect circumstances. And to believe that these elusive elements come hand in hand with happiness is simply not true and quite misleading. Happiness is not a byproduct  of being young, beautiful with wealth. We all have the right to happiness at any age, regardless of aesthetics, and without depending simply on money. What I think is that happiness is a practice. Just like golf, piano and maths times tables requires a devopment of skill so does the learning of how to feel happy. Today I refer to chapter one in my book “Daily Rituals For Happiness”.  We need to cognitively learn to feel and practice feeling happy every day. Wouldn’t life just be a game of russian roulette if our happiness was simply dependent upon such transient states as beauty, wealth and bliss? If we look at Maslow’s law…..we know that happiness requires comfort….( Do you want to hear more? Hello, Lauren here, today I chat about my upcoming free happiness course. And I welcome you to my 100th episode. Yay yippee. So why don’t you get yourself a nice cup of tea and let’s have a chat. I have mine already in hand.

How are you? How are you feeling?…I mean how are you really feeling at this moment? It is the morning here and people are busily going to work, driving this way and that, harem scarem, and I have just dropped off the kids at school( the boys that is..the girls are SUPPOSED to catch the bus). It is very busy in the streets around my home. There are dogs barking and there is a lot of life happening here….a lot of morning noise. Do you have a lot of noise in your life? Do you have a lot of responsibilities? Do you ever feel like you are drowning under the weight of life without any time to simply feel happy? Well I think that we can do both, we can find a sense of balance and still feel happy.

I want you to take a moment to really consider how you are right now…stop what you are doing( safely) and take a moment to be in the present. How are you feeling right now? This morning I woke up to the noise of my girls( teenage girls mind you) arguing about losing shoes….they were screaming….’I can’t find my shoes’…they were late for the school bus…( not uncommon I am sorry to add)aah the juggle of life. On this occasion, I hid my head under the covers and imagined myself as a clown juggling balls and trying to keep them in the air. So how do you feel? Now notice your dominant feelings like waves in the ocean and then notice the quieter grains of sand beneath. What feelings forms those grains? The grains are like all those good feelings we have surrounding  a dominant emotion which sweeps in at times. Is it the nice cup of tea that you are currently drinking, the comfy chair, or the green plants by your window? Feelings are never simple, there are always layers and ultimately we decide how we feel. Being happy takes practice…lots of practice. Today I talk about ‘how to feel happy’ while maintaining the juggle of life. Enjoy.

Hi everyone, it’s just pouring down outside in buckets and the magpies are singing in joy. I think that God has heard me and knows that I love the rain. The rain makes the most beautiful sounds against my tin roof and my windowpane. I love the pitter patter of rain I find it to be so calming. Don’t you?

Today we’re going to talk about turning each pebble of life over and learning to feel happy. Happiness is not just about a state of euphoria, bliss or a giddy high. Happiness is about courage, resilience, taking responsibility, and adjusting to each issue which life throws us. We choose what and how to feel. No one else can do that for us. Today I talk about creating your own happiness survival kit. So go and pour your self a beautiful cup of tea in your favourite cup and let’s have a chat.

Episode 96 – An awareness exercise to increase happiness & reduce stress

Today we are going to do a fun exercise in awareness to help you feel happier every single day…Would you like to try that? Now this is a really simple exercise you can do at any time to help your mind learn to focus, deliberate, and essentially think more clearly …so it is really super useful and has a range of benefits. I ask you at the beginning of this episode to bring an item or a thing which gives you comfort. We use this for the awareness practice. And yes by practice I mean this is an exercise you repeat regularly. I recommend daily. The more you practice the better you get at it. And the more you practice the happier you get. Sound good doesn’t it? Now with your chosen item in your hand I want you to explore, enjoy, and immerse yourself in that item. Today I use a cup of tea( Because I just love tea and find it comforting). Throughout the episode today we notice our chosen item, we touch it, listen to it, look at it…possibly taste it. This exercise is all about really sitting in the present moment enjoying, appreciating, and focusing on what we have right in front of us. In this way we teach our minds to focus deliberately on what we have in this present moment rather than being distracted,  ruminating, over thinking or wandering away from the moment.   As we do bicep curls in order to increase our bicep strength, or we may run in order to increase our cardio fitness so we do happiness exercises in order to teach our brain to feel familiar with happiness.  In other words, we train our happiness muscle. So the feeling of happiness becomes more of a ‘go- to’ emotion for our brain rather than the emotions of anxiety or negative stress.   A trained brain is also more resilient and able to think more clearly which helps with problem solving and stress. So go and get yourself an item which brings you comfort and resonates with who you are and come back and sit down and let’s do a simple exercise to train our happiness muscle.
